Gaels Are Dominant In Victory Over Algoma

Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. (Nov. 8, 2024) — The Queen's Gaels Men's Basketball team continued their strong season with a commanding 121-74 victory over the Algoma Thunderbirds at the George Leach Centre. Queen's, now on a three-game winning streak, demonstrated impressive shooting and defensive intensity, solidifying their record at 3-1.

The Gaels offense was led by Ollie Engen, who recorded 23 points and 10 assists, controlling the game with sharp passes and effective playmaking. Lucas Ponting contributed a solid 21 points and six rebounds, showing versatility both inside and from the perimeter. Players Isaac Krueger and Jalen Sikkema provided a combined 29 points, with Sikkema going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, adding valuable depth to the Gaels' scoring efforts.

Queen's dominated from the start, quickly establishing an 18-point lead by halftime. With efficient shooting — 50% from the field and 38.9% from three-point range — and relentless defensive pressure, the Gaels forced Algoma into 25 turnovers, resulting in 38 points off those mistakes. On the boards, Queen's outrebounded Algoma 53-42, limiting the Thunderbirds' second-chance points.

The Gaels continued to control the pace in the second half, with key contributions from AJ Cummings and Scott Jenkins, who each added 12 points. Queen's relentless attack on both ends of the floor kept Algoma from closing the gap and ultimately secured a dominant 47-point win.

The Gaels will look to extend their win streak on November 15th as they head to Waterloo to take on the Warriors.
