Late Surge Not Enough as Gaels Drop 2-1 Game to Windsor

Queen's Men's Hockey fell short in a tightly contested 2-1 loss to the Windsor Lancers Saturday night, wrapping up their weekend road trip with a 1-1 split. Despite a solid start and another productive night from their special teams, the Gaels couldn't overcome Windsor's solid defensive play in the third period.

The Gaels struck first, just over five minutes into the opening frame. Cameron Tolnai (Business) netted his third goal of the season, converting on a quick setup from Holden Katzalay (Arts & Science) and Daniel Michaud (Arts & Science). Queen's kept the pressure on, drawing two penalties in the first period alone, but was unable to capitalize further.

The Lancers answered back midway through the first period with a goal from Will Ennis, leveling the score 1-1. The back-and-forth play continued into the second, with both teams generating chances, though strong goaltending on both ends kept the game close. Aidan Spooner (Arts & Science) held his ground for Queen's, making key saves to keep the score tied through to the  second period.

Midway through the second, Windsor's Logan Linklater scored what would ultimately be the game-winning goal, assisted by Travis Hensrud. Queen's fought hard to equalize, mounting an offensive push in the closing minutes, but the Lancers' defense held steady.

With the loss, Queen's moves to an 8-2-0 record on the season. The Gaels will look to bounce back next weekend as they return home to face the Carleton Ravens at the Memorial Centre this Friday coming.
