KINGSTON, Ont. (Oct. 5, 2024) - Queen's Men's Rugby won their third straight game Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field, taking down the Laurier Golden Hawks 78-22.
Owen Lee and
Marcus D'Acre led the Gaels' offence in the big win, with Lee (Commerce) finishing with a game-high three tries for 15 points while D'Acre (Economics) was good on nine conversions for 18 points.
Cameron Bubyn (Computer Science) and
Ben Greenstein (Life Sciences) also scored multiple tries for Queen's, finishing with two each, while Mike Hayes (Arts & Science),
Simon Burns (Commerce), Dan Svoboda (Kinesiology),
Trekker James (Psychology), and Luka Amereshere (Applied Science) each finished with one try in the 56-point win.
Queen's opened the scoring just three minutes into the game when Bubyn received a nice pass and ran into the try zone to give the Gaels a lead they would not relinquish.
Queen's led 59-7 at half time and would cruise in the second half to finish the game 78-22.
Saturday's game was also Seniors' Day for the Gaels, with the program honouring graduating seniors Hayes,
Connor Gittens,
Adam Doyle,
Eric Godden, Svoboda,
Sterling Seunarine, Greg Mazza,
Jacob Merkur, and
Hayden Parkins prior to the game.
With the win, the Gaels' improved their record to 4-1 on the season. Queen's will close out the regular season next week when they travel to St. Catharines, Ont. to take on the Brock Badgers, Saturday Oct. 12 at 4 p.m.
