KINGSTON, Ont. (Oct. 5, 2024) - Queen's Men's Hockey swept their weekend home opener series with a 6-3 win over the York Lions Saturday night at the Memorial Centre.
After the Lions opened the scoring early in the first period, Queen's responded with three straight goals to close out the first period up 3-1. Last night's overtime hero,
Nolan Hutcheson (Health Studies) evened the scoring for the Gaels just a minute after York scored, while
Ethan Larmand (Arts & Science) and
Nathan Ribau (Arts & Science) also scored in the first period.
Daniel Michaud (Arts & Science) added to the Gaels' lead early in the second period before York scored twice to cut Queen's lead to 4-3.
Cameron Tolnai (Business) scored late in the third period and Hutcheson added an empty netter to secure the three-goal lead for Queen's.
Hutcheson, who also recorded an assist in the win, led Queen's offence with three points.
Aidan Spooner (Business) recorded 12 saves for the win for the Gaels.
With the victory, Queen's opened the season at 2-0-0. The Gaels are back on the ice next weekend, hosting the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Centre, before travelling to Toronto, Ont. to take on the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. Tickets for Friday's game can be purchased on the
