Queen's Women's Basketball opened their OUA regular season Saturday in Guelph, Ont., losing to the Guelph Gryphons 83-54.
It was a tight contest through the first quarter before the Gryphons outscored Queen's 29-11 in the second quarter to take a 21-point lead into half time on way to the win.
Haley Barbieri (Arts & Science), led the Gaels with 17 points in the win while
Mikayla McFarlane (Kinesiology) also scored in double digits, finishing the game with 10 points.
Queen's shot 30 per cent from the floor and 16 per cent from three-point range, while the Gryphons shot 43 per cent from the floor and 44 per cent from three-point range.
With the loss, the Gaels start the season 0-1. Queen's will return to action next weekend, hosting the Windsor Lancers on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. and Western Mustangs on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).
