Queen's Women's Hockey Falls to Laurier 4-2

Queen's Women's Hockey took on the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday evening in their first road game of the season. After a hard-fought battle, the Gaels fell 4-2.

The Golden Hawks lit up the scoreboard early in the first period, with a goal from Emerie Maltby. Laurier's Claire Robinson followed it up — only a minute later — with another, bringing Queen's to a two-goal deficit.

The Gaels fought back hard, looking for chances on net. Mikayla Cranney (Arts & Science) bagged the first goal for Queen's at the end of the first.

The second period was slow off the start, with neither team finding successful shots at net until the Gaels' Alyson Reeves (Commerce) nabbed another goal by tapping the puck into the net, tying the score.

Two more Golden Hawks added to the scoreboard in the third, bringing the Gaels back to a two-goal deficit.

After a penalty a piece with two minutes left in the third, the Gaels and the Golden Hawks played four on four hockey. Queen's pulled goalkeeper Emma Tennent (Mechanical Engineering) opting for the offensive advantage over Laurier, however, they were unable to claw back a second time.

The Gaels continue their road trip weekend on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 4pm, when they take on the Waterloo Warriors. The game is available to stream on OUA.tv.
