BOX SCORE Queen's Women's Soccer took on the Trent Excalibur in the penultimate game of their regular season — the Gaels walked away with a resounding 7-0 victory.
Saturday was also Seniors' Day for Queen's Women's Soccer, with Dominique Clarke, Devon Eisen, Marissa Gravel, Mattson Strickler, and Kirstin Tynan being honoured for their time with the program prior to the game.
"Players in their fourth and fifth year have obviously made huge contributions in terms of everything we do. I think they reflect what our program is all about, the amount of work you need to put in and the sacrifices you need to make to be a top player or team in this league. I'm so proud to be able to honour them today and equally as proud of everything they have done for us and the people that they've become in the time that they have been here," Head Coach Dave McDowell said.
Graduating Senior, Mattson Strickler (Con Ed), nabbed the first goal for the Gaels in the 10th minute, breaking away from the crowd of Trent's defense and finding the back of the net.
In the 24th minute Sticker added another for Queen's, assisted by Morgan Fenton (Philosophy).
Seema Sakran (Kinesiology) picked up the next Gaels goal, rushing by the Trent goalkeeper to score on the open net.
Stricker added the fourth and fifth Queen's goals in the 30th and 39th minute, bringing the Gaels to a 5-0 lead heading into halftime.
The second half started out with another senior goal from Dominique Clarke (Kinesiology), assisted by Brinley Bjornson (Arts).
Lily Coish (Arts) closed out the scoring for the Gaels, finding the back of the net in the 80th minute and bringing the score to 7-0.
Throughout the entire game, the Gaels displayed their aggressive offense that has characterised this season. They maintained control of the ball and the game all 90 minutes.
"We've developed well and learned lots of lessons as the season has gone along. I think we defend well, we keep position really well, and we'll break you down really well," McDowell remarked.
With the win, the Gaels record improves to 8-2-1
Women's Soccer closes out their regular season on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 1:00pm, taking on the Ottawa Gee-Gees for the second time this season.
