Queen's Men's Basketball opened the second half of their regular season by sending the previously undefeated Ottawa Gee-Gees to their first loss of the season, winning 96-95 Friday night in Ottawa, Ont.
The Gee-Gees jumped out to a 10-point lead after the first quarter but the Gaels would claw back and lead by one at half time. After a tight back-and-forth second half, Queen's held on for the close victory.
Four Gaels players scored in double digits in the regular season classic, led by Cam Bett (Staines-upon-Thames, UK) with a game-high 21 points off the bench.
Michael Kelvin II (Kingston, Ont.) scored 16 points while
Luka Syllas (Kingston, Ont.) and
Fofo Adetogun (Regina, Sask.) added 14 points in the win.
Aaron Tennant (London, Ont.) led the Gaels with 11 rebounds while
Cole Syllas (Kingston, Ont.) grabbed 10 rebounds, with both players falling just one point short of a double double, scoring nine points each.
Queen's bench was huge in the win, recording 39 points to the Gee-Gees' 14.Â
Both teams shot well from the field, with the Gaels' finishing at 48.6 per cent and the Gee-Gees at 49.3 per cent, with Queen's outshooting Ottawa from three-point range 39.5 per cent to 30.8 per cent.
With the win, the Gaels' improved their record to 8-2 on the season. Ottawa's record fell to 10-1 with the loss.
