KINGSTON, Ont. (Jan. 12, 2024) Queen's Men's Basketball secures commanding win over McMaster Marauders Friday night at the ARC.
The opening quarter witnessed a tightly contested battle, characterized by a continuous exchange of points, with the score frequently within a single point. The closely matched quarter resulted in a slim 20-18 lead for the Gaels.
Queen's sustained their momentum in the second quarter, furthering their lead with impressive plays. Luka Syllas and Michael Kelvin II wowed the audience with spectacular slam dunks. Despite the Gaels' lead, the game remained tightly contested, concluding the first half with Queen's holding a 42-36 advantage. Luka Syllas capped off the first half with a buzzer-beating three-pointer, giving the team a boost of momentum as they headed into halftime.
In a gripping third quarter, Queen's propelled into a promising position. Cole Syllas and Luka Syllas showcased an impressive scoring spree, notching point after point, ultimately dominating the scoreboard with 19 and 17 points, respectively. The Marauders fought back, but the Gaels maintained a resilient 7-point lead entering the fourth quarter. The crowd erupted as Queen's secured the victory with a final score of 76-67.Â
Queen's accumulated 34 points in the paint, surpassing McMaster's 30. The bench points also leaned in Queen's favor, contributing 22 compared to McMaster's 17,
With the win, the men's record improved to 9-3. The men are back on their home court January 13 at 8:00 PM to take on the York Lions.Â
