Gaels run past Brock Badgers for big road win, remain undefeated

Queen's Women's Rugby defeated the Brock Badgers 33-3 Friday night in St. Catharines, Ont. to remain undefeated on the season, improving their record to 5-0.

After the Badgers opened the scoring with a penalty convert, Queen's scored the first try of the game when Riley Rewakowski (Uxbridge, Ont.) fought into the try zone. The try, converted by Lizzie Gibson (Caledon, Ont.) gave Queen's a 7-3 lead, a lead they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the night.

Mika Matsukubo (Ottawa, Ont.) finished the game with a game-high two tries, scoring for Queen's in the second half both times.

Jayne Armatage (Waterloo, Ont.) and Carmen Izyk (Blackie, Alta.) also scored for the Gaels in the big win, and Gibson added eight points on four converts.

Izyk's try was the eighth of the season, which leads Queen's and is also first in the OUA.

The Gaels will return to action next weekend, hosting the McMaster Marauders in their regular season finale, on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Nixon Field.
