Lizzie Gibson recorded 27 points in Queen's Women's Rugby's season opener against Trent, becoming the program's all-time leader in points with 245 and helping the Gaels defeat the Excalibur 102-0.
Gibson (Caledon, Ont.) entered the game with 218 career points at Queen's, just one point behind Lauren McEwan's 219 for most all-time with Queen's Women's Rugby. Gibson recorded one try and 11 converts for 27 points against the Excalibur and now sits alone atop the all-time scoring list.
Gibson wasn't the only Gaels player to have a big game in the team's season opener.
Carmen Izyk (Blackie, Alta.), who finished last year tied for second on the team in points with 45, finished with a game-high five tries for 25 points.
Taylor Perry (Oakville, Ont.) and
Rachel Cullum (Ottawa, Ont.) recorded two tries each while
Robyn Baker (Uxbridge, Ont.),
Emily Butterworth (Toronto, Ont.),
Maddy May (Tofino, B.C.),
Guinevere O'Hara (Toronto, Ont.),
Siobhan Sheerin (Toronto, Ont.), and Jordyn Shneppenheim (Keswick, Ont.) each recorded one try in the win.
With the big win, the Gaels opened the season at 1-0. Queen's will return to the pitch next weekend for their home opener, taking on the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 3:30 p.m. at Nixon Field.
