Queen's Women's Volleyball fell in heartbreaking fashion, 3-2 (24-26, 16-25, 25-23, 27-25, 15-13) to the Brock Badgers in the OUA Quigley Cup Championship Saturday night in St. Catharines, Ont.
The Gaels used extra points to jump out to a 1-0 lead after the first set and took the second set in convicing fashion. But the Badgers managed to battle back, edging Queen's in the third set before an extra points win in the fourth set sent the championship game to a fifth and deciding set.
Queen's battled hard but ultimately fell by just two points, 15-13, to end up as the OUA silver medalists.
Hannah Duchesneau (Sharon, Ont.) led the Gaels with 17 kills, which tied for a game-high, while also contributing 10 blocks.
Mary Stewart (Uxbridge, Ont.) finished with 14 kills and a team-high 11 digs while
Amanda Siksna (Markham, Ont.) recorded 11 blocks and three aces.
Shea Baker (Vancouver, B.C.) added a game-high 54 assists for Queen's in the loss.
The Gaels entered the OUA Playoffs as the No. 7 seed before two straight sets wins sent them to the Quigley Cup. Queen's was one set away from an OUA championship but their incredible playoff run instead ended with silver medals.
