St. Catharines, Ont. (Feb. 19, 2023) - With strong finishes in all three weapons, the Queen's Gaels Women's Fencing Team won the Overall bronze and the Men's Team finished fourth at the 2022-23 OUA Fencing Championships, hosted by Brock University from February 17-19.
On the first day of competition, the Gaels'
Caroline Whitehead won the Women's Individual Sabre bronze medal and, on the second day, she captained the Queen's Women's Sabre Team (Whitehead,
Kirstin Lang,
Vivian Yao,
Hannah Naguib) to a bronze medal victory over McMaster.
The Queen's Men's Sabre Team (
Alex Sun,
Filbert Yung,
Luke Steverango,
Timothy Wood) captured the bronze on Day 3 of the Championships, defeating TMU.
Queen's Women's Epee Team (
Courtney Bannerman,
Sheyma Ben Mabrouk,
Charlotte Reed,
Elizabeth Fullerton) and the Foil Team (
Hannah Bryan,
Nancy Chua, Jing Han (Wendy) Li,
Kelachi Nsitem) had strong fourth place finishes on Day 3.
The Men's Foil Team (
Cameron Hostetler Keates, James Samuel Broughton,
Ewan Peterson,
Ben Laurin) also secured the fourth place spot and the Men's Epee Team (Peizhen (Daniel ) Li,
Herbert Wang, Zhiqian (Jacob) Zhang, Ce (Sean) Liang) finished in sixth place at the Championships.
