KINGSTON, Ont. (December 1, 2023) - Queen's Women's Hockey defeated the Western Mustangs 5-1 Friday night at the Memorial Centre.
The game started aggressive, with team rivalry and passion in the air. Six minutes into the first period, Scout Watkins-Southward scored, followed by Taya Leonard just three minutes later. After a couple of penalties to Queen's players, the Mustangs popped one in the back of the net, ending the first period with a score of 2-1 for the Gaels.
Queen's emerged fiery in the second period, fighting to answer Western's previous goal. On a power-play, Sophie Hudson for Queen's scored, and just one minute later was followed by Carys Collie to finish the second period with a score of 4-1 for Queen's.
The third period saw lots of Western penalties as a result of frustration. With eight minutes left in the game, Sara Di Filippo put the puck in the back of the Mustangs' net, finishing the game with a score of 5-1 for Queen's.Â
Emma Tennant, who played in net, had 17 shots on net, only letting in one.Â
After tonight's game, Queen's overall standing will rise to 7-7-0, and the women will be back in action on Saturday, December 2nd as they take on the Windsor Lancers.
