Queen's Women's Rugby claimed the bronze medal at the U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship after a 36-20 win over their conference rivals, the Guelph Gryphons, Sunday in Quebec City, Que.

After Guelph opened the scoring with a penalty convert to take a 3-0 lead, the Gaels responded with five straight tries, four with the added conversion, and a penalty convert of their own to take a 36-3 lead after the 60th minute.

The Gryphons would add three tries to close out the game, but Queen's would hold on for the 16-point win and a spot on the national podium.

Lizzie Gibson (Caledon, Ont.) finished the bronze medal win with 16 points off one try, four converts, and one penalty convert.

Carmen Izyk (Blackie, Alta.) and Jaden Walker (Oakville, Ont.) both finished with two tries each in the winning effort for Queen's.

With the win, Queen's Women's Rugby finished with a national medal for the fourth straight season, and finished 2023 with the OUA Gold Medal and U SPORTS Bronze Medal.
