Gaels punch ticket to OUA Championship, U SPORTS Nationals with big win over Western

KINGSTON, Ont. (Oct. 20, 2023) - Queen's Women's Rugby booked their ticket to the OUA Championship and U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship with a 45-5 win over the Western Mustangs in the OUA semifinals Friday night at Nixon Field.

Maggie Banks (Coquitlam, B.C.) helped lead the Gaels' offensive charge with a game-high four tries in the 40-point win, including a number of highlight-reel tries in the win for Queen's.

Rachel Cullum (Ottawa, Ont.) scored the game-opening try early in the first half for Queen's while Jaden Walker (Oakville, Ont.) and Carmen Izyk (Blackie, Alta.) also added highlight-reel tries in the win.

Lizzie Gibson (Caledon, Ont.) added five converts in the win to help propel Queen's to the big win.

With the semifinal win, the Gaels will host the OUA Championship next weekend at Nixon Field. More details to follow.
