Queen's Women's Basketball defeated the Algoma Thunderbirds 77-34 Saturday afternoon in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. With the win, the Gaels remained undefeated on the season, improving their record to 12-0.
Julia Chadwick led Queen's offensively, finishing the game with a game-high 21 points and 13 rebounds. Two other Gaels players scored in double digits in the win with Bella Belvedere scoring 10 points and Mikalya McFarlane adding 12 points off the bench.
Emma Weltz finished with seven points and 10 rebounds for Queen's in the win.
The game was close through the first quarter with Queen's leading 20-16 heading into the second before they began pulling away. The Gaels outscored Algoma 19-8 in the second quarter for a 15-point half time lead and they would not look back on their way to a 43-point win.
The Gaels finished the game shooting 37 per cent from the floor and 22 per cent from beyond the arc, compared to 21 per cent shooting from the floor and 19 per cent from three-point range for the Thunderbirds.
The Gaels return to the court next weekend, hosting a doubleheader at the Athletics and Recreation Centre as they take on the Windsor Lancers on Friday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. and the Western Mustangs on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. Tickets for both games can be purchased
