Queen’s Women’s Hockey fall to Toronto Varsity Blues

KINGSTON, Ont. (Jan. 13, 2023) – Queen's Women's Hockey fell to the Toronto Varsity Blues 5-2 Friday night at the Memorial Centre, in their first game of a doubleheader this weekend.

The Varsity Blues scored the first four goals of the game. Isabella Greco opened the scoring for Toronto five minutes into the first period before Kaitlyn McKnight doubled their lead with a power play goal heading into the second period.

Olivia Hilton and Nikki McDonald scored for the Varsity Blues in the second before Emma Michalicka got the Gaels on the board with her second of the season on the power play. Michalika's goal was assisted by Alex Maw.

After Taylor Trussler restored Toronto's four-goal lead early in the third period, Rebecca Thompson responded for Queen's with her sixth of the season, assisted by Emma McKnight and Michalicka.

Vanessa Campeau finished the game with 24 saves for the Gaels.

With the loss, Queen's record fell to 3-6-4-4. The Gaels now third in the OUA East Division standings. The Varsity Blues improved to 14-2-0-0 with the win.

Queen's and Toronto will close out their weekend doubleheader Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2:30 p.m. at the Memorial Centre. Tickets for the game can be purchased here.
