Queen's Women's Rugby blank second straight opponent, beat Brock in home opener

KINGSTON, Ont. (Sept. 10, 2022) - Queen's Women's Rugby showed their home crowd why they are the reigning U SPORTS Women's Rugby Champions with 64-0 win over the visiting Brock Badgers at Nixon Field Saturday. 

Mya Brubacher (Elmira, Ont.) opened the scoring in the fifth minute after breaking through the Badgers defense. Lizzie Gibson (Caledon, Ont.) followed up with a successful conversion, then added six more converts and one try in the big win. 

Maddy Donnelly (Little Britain, Ont.) added a game-high three tries while Carmen Izyk (Blackie, Alta.) finished with two. Izzy Page (Markham, Ont.) and Mika Matsukobu (Ottawa, Ont.) both added one try each in the win.

With the win, the Gaels improved to 2-0 on the season and remain atop the OUA Standings, alongside the Guelph Gryphons and Western Mustangs. Brock fell to 0-2 on the season with the loss.

Queen's will return to action next Saturday, Sept. 17, at 4 p.m. at Nixon Field, hosting the Mustangs.
