Gaels fall to Alberta Golden Bears, finish fourth at U SPORTS Men's Final 8 Basketball Championship

Queen's Men's Basketball fell to the Alberta Golden Bears 95-84 in the Bronze Medal Game at the U SPORTS Men's Final 8 Basketball Championship, to finish the national championship in fourth place.

It was a close game through three quarters, with Queen's trailing by just two points at half time and down by only four heading into the final quarter. Alberta went on a run early in the quarter and were able to hold off a late Queen's comeback attempt for the 11-point win.

Quinton Gray (Richmond Hill, Ont.) led the Gaels' offence with a game-high 38 points, including a number of deep three-pointers late in the fourth quarter as the Gaels tried to mount a comeback.

Gray, who was named the Gaels' Player of the Game, added three rebounds and four assists.

Brandon Aultman (Kitchener, Ont.) added 15 points in the loss while Cole Syllas finished with eight points and nine rebounds.

The Golden Bears controlled the glass in the win, out-rebounding Queen's 58-38 while finishing with 21 second chance points to 10 for the Gaels. Alberta also had 34 points in the paint compared to 20 for Queen's.

Queen's finished the game shooting 42.2 per cent from the field and 50 per cent from three-point range, compared to 38.4 per cent from the floor and 35.9 per cent from three-point range for Alberta.

The fourth place finish caps the most successful year for Queen's Men's Basketball, who were making their first-ever appearance at a national championship.
