KINGSTON, Ont. (March 4) - Queen's Women's Hockey lost 5-1 to the York Lions Friday at the Memorial Centre in the first game of their home-and-home series over the weekend.
Scout Watkins Southward (Kingston, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Gaels early in the first period on a goal assisted by
Emma McKnight (Dorchester, Ont.) and Queen's held a one-goal lead after the first period.
York evened the game in the second period with a power play goal scored by Julianna Duma before netting four goals in the third period for the four-goal win. Kelsey McHolm, Lexi Anonench, Brooke Anderson, and Ava Ricker-Singh scored for the Lions in their four-goal third period.
Queen's out-shot York 32-27 with
Makenzy Arsenault (Whitby, Ont.) making 23 saves for the Gaels.
With the loss, Queen's record fell to 1-8-1 while the Lions' record improved to 3-11-1-1 with the win.
The Gaels will close out their regular season in the second half of their home-and-home series against the Lions on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. in Toronto, Ont.
