Queen's Women's Basketball drop tight contest to No. 7 Ottawa

After sending the Ottawa Gee-Gees to their first loss of the regular season Friday night at the ARC, Queen's Women's Basketball dropped a tight 69-67 contest to the Gee-Gees (No. 7) in the second half of their weekend home-and-home series Saturday in Ottawa, Ont.

With the loss, the Gaels (No. 10) fell to 4-3 in fifth in the OUA East. Ottawa improved to 7-1 with the win and sit second in the OUA East.

Laura Donovan (London, Ont.) had a second strong game for Queen's against the Gee-Gees, leading all scorers with 24 points in the loss. Julia Chadwick (Ottawa, Ont.) and Isabella Belvedere (Bolton, Ont.) also scored in double digits for the Gaels, with 13 and 11 points respectively.

Sophie de Goede (Victoria, B.C.) led the Gaels with a game-high 15 rebounds.

Brigitte Lefebvre-Okankwu led Ottawa with 15 points.

Queen's shot 25-52 (48.1 per cent) from the floor and 7-22 (31.8 per cent) from three point range, compared to 28-63 (44.4 per cent) from the floor and 7-25 (28 per cent) from three-point range for the Gee-Gees.

The Gaels return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 22 in Oshawa, Ont. against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (1-7).
