KINGSTON, Ont. (Dec. 19, 2022) - Queen's alumnus and former Gaels Track & Field star Hugh Fraser (ArtSci '74) was named Chair of Hockey Canada this past weekend.
Fraser, a retired judge with nearly three decades of experience as a Justice in Ontario, competed with Queen's Track & Field Team in 1971-72 and 1972-73.
Fraser won OUAA (now OUA) Gold medals in the 50 metre, 100 metre, and 200 metre in both years he competed, while setting a then-OUAA record in the 200 metre (21.9 seconds). He also helped Queen's earn Gold in the 4X100 metre relay in 1972-73 and was named the Hec Phillips Trophy recipient as OUAA Track & Field MVP in 1971-72.
Fraser would go on to compete in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, competing in the 200 metre and running as the anchor of Canada's 4x100m relay team.
Fraser is recognized as an international expert in sports law. He has previously served as President of the Sports Federation of Canada, President of the Commonwealth Games Foundation of Canada, and on the board of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport.
On December 29, 2021, Fraser was appointed as Officer of the Order of Canada for his contributions to sport in Canada.
Fraser was born in Kingston, Jamaica and grew up in Kingston, Ontario.
