Queen's holds on for win against Ottawa to advance to U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship Game

The Queen's Gaels will be competing for the Monilex Trophy again. The defending U SPORTS Women's Rugby Champions defeated the Ottawa Gee-Gees 22-17 Friday in Victoria, B.C. to advance to the Championship game.

In a rematch of last year's Championship Game, the Gaels jumped out to a 22-0 first half lead. Maddy Kushner, Maddy Donnelly, and Amelia Stapley with a highlight reel try on a long run all scored for Queen's to give the Gaels a four possession lead at half time.

The Gee-Gees mounted a comeback in the second half, opening with two early tries. Ottawa added a third try on the final play of the game but it wasn't enough, as Queen's held on for the five-point win in the semifinal match.

Queen's will face the Laval Rouge et Or in the U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship Game. After Laval defeated the Gaels 22-14 in the Championship Game in 2019, Queen's got by Laval on their way to the championship last year, defeating the Rouge et Or 28-18 in the semifinals.
