Queen's Women's Basketball open season with win over Laurentian

KINGSTON, Ont. (Nov. 3, 2022) - Bella Belvedere and Bridget Mulholland led the way offensively for Queen's Women's Basketball as they opened their 2022-23 season with a 68-52 win over the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs Thursday night at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).

Powered by 7-10 shooting from three-point range, Belvedere scored a game-high 22 points while Mulholland scored 20 points while adding six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

The contest was close through the first half, with Queen's outscoring Laurentian 17-13 in the first quarter and leading 30-28 at half time. But the second half was all Gaels, as Queen's outscored their opponents 38-24 down the stretch on their way to the 16-point win.

The Gaels defence was strong in the season-opening win, forcing 23 turnovers which led to 28 points.

Julia Chadwick led all Gaels with 10 rebounds while adding three points and two steals.

Bailey Tabin had a strong game for Laurentian, recording a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Emilie Lafond poured in 10 points for the Voyageurs in the loss.

Queen's will look to sweep their weekend series tomorrow at the ARC, taking on the Nipissing Lakers Friday at 6 p.m.
