KINGSTON, Ont. (Oct. 29, 2022) - Queen's Women's Hockey fell short in a close game against the Brock Badgers Saturday night at the Memorial Centre. The Badgers, who are now on a two-game winning streak, defeated the Gaels 2-1 in a shootout.
Following a quiet first period, the Gaels were first to score, taking advantage of a power play opportunity to jump ahead 1-0 less than a minute into the second frame, with a goal from
Rebecca Thompson and assists by Scout Watkins-Southward and
Emma McKnight.
Brock was able to even the game with a goal midway through the third period. The Gaels went into their second overtime game of the season and with no goals being scored, went into their first shootout.
The shootout went on until the seventh round when Badgers goalie Kenzie Harmison made the game-winning save. Queen's goalie
Vanessa Campeau ended the game with an incredible 55 saves.
The Gaels will now travel to Brock in the second game of a home-and-home series on Friday, Nov. 4. The puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. Watch online at OUA.TV.
