KINGSTON, Ont. (Oct. 23, 2022) - Queen's Women's Soccer put on a show for Seniors Day and officially finished their regular season undefeated. The Gaels finished with a 7-0 win against the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs Sunday at Richardson Stadium. Â
Before the match, a ceremony was held honouring the team's seniors and their contributions to the Queen's Women's Soccer program. Sophia Kienast, Maddy Moran, Becca Kim, Jenna Matsukubo, Jenna Leslie, Tori Chia and Cecilia Way were all celebrated before the game by their families, loved ones, teammates and the Gaels supporters.
The Gaels put on quite the show for the special crowd in attendance, with five different goal scorers in the big win. The team started off strong, with Mattie Strickler scoring a goal in the first minute of the game from a wonderful cross in from Matsukubo. Tori Chia followed up with a stunning free kick to make it 2-0 in the 15th minute. Strickler then netted two goals back-to-back to end the first half up 4-0. Raya Athwal also got on the scoresheet with a goal in the 56th minute. Way and Kayla Gunn followed suit for a final score of 7-0 for the Gaels.
With the win and a draw by the Ottawa Gee-Gees in their match against the RMC Paladins, the Gaels will enter the OUA Playoffs as the No. 1 seed in OUA East. Queen's earned a bye in the first round and will host the second round on Sunday, Oct. 30 at Richardson Stadium.
