de Goede helps lead Queen's Women's Rugby past Guelph to remain undefeated

Sophie de Goede helped lead Queen's Women's Rugby past the Guelph Gryphons 31-3 Saturday in a matchup of U SPORTS Top 10 ranked teams, and a rematch of the 2019 OUA Championship.

Queen's, ranked No. 2 in the U SPORTS Top 10 rankings, improved to 3-0 with the win. For Guelph, ranked No. 6 in the U SPORTS Top 10 rankings, the loss dropped their record to 2-1.

de Goede (Victoria, BC) scored a game-high two tries for the Gaels, opening the scoring in the ninth minute and adding her second try in the 55th minute. Maddy Kushner (Ottawa, Ont.) and Carmen Izyk (Blackie, Alta.) also scored tries for Queen's while their fifth try of the game was awarded as a result of a Gryphons penalty.

Kendra Cousineau scored for Guelph off a penalty kick in the 39th minute.

Queen's has a bye next week and will close out their regular season against the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m. at Nixon Field.
