TORONTO (February 23, 2020) - The No.6 Queen's Gaels (14-4) brought home a season finale win from Toronto this Sunday evening. The Gaels defeated the No. 10 Ryerson Rams (11-7) in their second straight set sweep of the Rams this season.
GAME FLOW
Outside hitter
Adam Boljkovac kicked off this OUA season finale with a kill off a set from
Zane Grossinger. And from there, the Gaels showed the Rams for the second time this season, the ability of their front row. With OUA all-star
Zac Hutcheson spiking down unreturnable kills and always consistentGrossigner providing perfectly timed sets, the Gaels showed strongly on offense. However, the Rams defence did good work holding up against the Gaels attacks. In a close point-for-point race, the Gaels held onto the first set 26-24.
Consecutive kills from
Erik Siksna propelled the Gaels offensive dominance. Siksna completed a match total of 10 kills and two aces. Several attack and serving errors by the Rams gave the Gaels the opportunity to drive the attack. The Gaels held onto their lead, taking the second set 25-16.
Boljkovac again made his presence known this evening, characterizing the set with huge kills. Boljkovac completed a total of 11 kills and six digs on the evening. The Rams could not retaliate. A kill from
Dax Tompkins pushed the third set into a straight set win for the Gaels.
