Trois-Riveres, Que. (February 15th, 2019) – The Queen's Gaels (0-2) season comes to an end after the UQTR Patriotes (19-6-1-2) came back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Gaels 4-3.
GAME FLOW
Beginning tonight's game two contest in the OUA East quarterfinals against the UQTR Patriotes, the Gaels started strong taking a 3-0 lead into the second, however three straight power play goals by the Patriotes would end the Gaels 2019-20 season.
After the Patriotes 3-1 won over the Gaels in game 1 on Wednesday, Queen's started hot scoring early. Off a faceoff, a
Jaren Burke goal with the help of
Will Sirman opened things up giving the Gaels a 1-0 lead at the beginning of the first.
Following a few quick passes from
Mason Kohn and
Nevin Guy,
Jaden Lindo responded with Queen's second goal of the night shooting from the right of the net and getting it past Patriotes goalie Sebastien Auger.
As the opening period winded down and the Gaels looking to force a game 3,
Jaden Lindo would skate behind the net controlling the puck before passing it to
Luke Edwards who banked in their third goal of the night giving the tricolor a commanding 3-0 going into the first intermission of the night.
A Gaels hooking penalty from Burke just over a minute into the second period would allow UQTR's Mathieu Boucher to score first for the Patriotes making it a 3-1 Queen's lead.
Just over six minutes after the Pats first goal, Edwards would earn a tripping penalty which caused the Patriotes Julien Tessier to score, again on the powerplay. The Gaels lead would be cut down to just one halfway through the second period.
Mirroring the first two goals, a third power play goal would tie things up with Simon Lafrance scoring for UQTR with just over ten minutes to go in the second.
The third period began with both teams tied 3-3 and UQTR taking their first lead of the night after a Jordan Martel goal.
Marthel's goal would be the eventual game winner and the goal that gives the Patriotes the win ends the Gaels chances of competing for the Queen's Cup.
