KINGSTON, Ont. (February 15, 2020) - The Queen's Gaels (11-7) finished off their home weekend against the Guelph Gryphons (11-7) falling in a clean set 3-0 victory for Guelph.
SENIOR NIGHT
GAME FLOW
The Gaels took the early lead, with
Arielle Palermo opening the match with one of her now infamous, set one aces. The Gaels and the Gryphons measured up equally on offence, but several crucial defensive mishaps for the Gaels created holes for the Gryphons to sneak in attacks. The Gryphons held onto the first set 25-17.
The second set saw strong blocking from the Gaels. However, the Gryphons ability to throw offensive stagey; with disguised tips and faked sets, made the set interesting for the Gaels on defence. The Gryphons tricky offence granted them a two-point lead for the duration of the second set. The Gryphons continued to lead the match by snagging the second set 25-21.
The Gaels faced long rallies in the third set. However, despite an early set lead, the Gaels could not match the Gryphons on offence. Regardless of the solid blocks put up by the likes of
Teah Cook and
Lauryn Colpitts, the Gryphons were always ready to return the Gaels attempts. The Gryphons took match point 25-22 off a block securing a clean set win 3-0.
