Range nets career-high 28, Luka Syllas has third straight double-double as Gaels win OT thriller over Laurier

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 1, 2020) - The Queen's Gaels (12-6) used overtime to defeat the Laurier Golden Hawks (9-10) 89-87 in OUA basketball action on Saturday night in Kingston.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels fell behind Laurier by as many as nine points in the opening quarter but with the final seconds ticking down, Cameron Bett snagged a rebound and shot up a three-quarter length of the court prayer that landed sending the Queen's crowd into a frenzy and cutting the Laurier lead after the opening frame down to just 26-24.

After the two teams stayed within a few points of one another for the majority of the second the halftime score saw the Gaels leading 43-41.

The Gaels started the second half on an 11-0 run as Harry Range had the hot hand netting six of the 11 points. The Golden Hawks responded with sharpshooting of their own including a pair of three-pointers from Matt Minutillo and caught right back up with the Gaels. Laurier held the edge heading to the fourth quarter 64-63.

Laurier extended their lead to as many as 13 in the fourth but the Gaels chipped away into the final minutes. After a pair of free-throws from Kemel Archer, Range took over for the Gaels with a  dominant pair of possessions in the post. He got Queen's to within two, then with seven seconds left tied the game up at 83-83 to force overtime.

Range continued his strong play into the extra frame scoring five of the Gaels six points in overtime to finish with a career-best 28 points on the night. A final shot from Laurier missed the mark and Queen's took the 89-87 victory.
