KINGSTON, Ont (February 1
st, 2020) – The Queen's Gaels (9-6) suffered a 3-1 loss to the visiting York Lions (7-6) on home court on Saturday afternoon in Kingston.
THINK PINK
GAME FLOW
The Gaels saw a slow start in the first set, with the Lions taking the court armed with out-of-no-where digs and relentless defence. A soaring kill from
Julia Wiercigroch and sneaky tip from
Alexandra Tsiofas jump-started the Gaels upward momentum. However, due to some first-set hesitation during the Gaels defence, the Lions managed to hold onto the first set 25-22.
Teah Cook kicked off the second set with an ace, starting the possession the Gaels held during the second set. With unreturnable attacks from
Arielle Palermo, the Gaels took the second set 25-20.
Palermo's massive kills continued into the third set. Despite a mid-set lead for the Lions, the Gaels consistency on offence paid off during the long rallies that characterized the third. Palermo continued her strong showing with a tricky pancake play in the set's final moments, however, the Lions came out on top of the third 25-21.
The fourth set maintained a point-for-point pattern. However, the latter half of the set saw a lead for the Lions. The York lead was just enough to get them the win, taking the fourth set 25-18, and the match 3-1.
