ST. CATHARINES, Ont. (September 23, 2019) - The No.1 Gaels women's rugby team defeated the Brock Badgers 82 - 7 at Alumni Field in St. Catharines on Saturday afternoon.
The Gaels opened the game with a back and forth struggle, as the Badgers matched Queen's physicality for the first few minutes of the match. Gaels winger Rachel Hickson broke through in the sixth minute, making a long run to score the Gaels first try of the night.
McKinley Hunt added another try to increase the lead to 14-0. Carmen Izyk followed that up with a try of her own for Queen's and Hickson closed out the half finishing a great series of passes for her second try of the half.
At halftime, the Gaels led 26-0 over the Badgers.
In the second half, the Gaels showcased why they're the No. 1 ranked team in the country, scoring 56 second half points and allowing only one try. The Gaels overwhelmed the Badgers to earn a blowout 82-7 victory.
With the victory, the Gaels will look to build on this performance and an undefeated regular season as the Tricolour enter the OUA playoffs with a first-round bye.
