st, 2019) – The Queen's Gaels women's soccer team (5-0-1) defeated the Carleton Ravens (0-4-2) 1-0 at Tindall Field on Saturday afternoon.
GAME FLOW
The undefeated Gaels stood opposite the Carleton Ravens, a team in search of their first win of the season. The first half saw both teams argue back and forth early on, however Queen's took over in possession late in the first half producing several scoring opportunities as the game reached it's 45
th minute.
The Gaels first half dominance of the Ravens concluded with a Christy Gray's failed breakaway attempt and missed penalty kick. Gray provide the Gaels with two great opportunities to grab the lead before the half was over but unfortunately couldn't find the back of the net. On the season, Gray has been a top offensive threat for the Gaels, her 18 shots through five games ranks tied for fifth in the OUA.
The second half began with the Gaels continuing to attack the Ravens defense. The Gaels tenacity paid off, as
Christie Gray found the back of the net for the only goal of afternoon. Queen's goalkeeper
Alanna Richardson kept the undefeated season alive stopping a Carleton penalty kick and stopping a rebound attmept by the Ravens.
In the last minutes of play, the Ravens missed on an empty next in which the ball sat idly feet away from the Gaels net which was ended by a collection of Gaels players able to keep the ball away from the back of the next and the 1-0 victory intact.
The Gaels remain undefeated after six games as they currently sit tied in first place in the East division.
