Road warrior No.8 Gaels take game one 3-2 in OT at No.4 Ravens, look to advance to Queen's Cup with win Friday in Kingston

OTTAWA (February 28, 2019) - The No.8 Queen's Gaels (5-1) the fourth-seed in the OUA won in overtime 3-2 over the No.4 Carleton Ravens (4-2) the second-seed in the OUA as the two teams battled on Friday night in game one in the best-of-three of the OUA East final.

Jaden Lindo scored the OT winner and Queen's will look to advance to the Queen's Cup with a win Friday night at home.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels and Ravens started things off slow in the opening minutes but Queen's found themselves on the power-play just 3:39 into the period. The Gaels couldn't find their offensive game and things remained scoreless.

After the Gaels were unable to score on their second man-advantage of the period they caught a break. Jared Lindo broke down the left wing on an odd-man rush and fired a shot that was partially blocked by a Ravens defenceman, the puck hopped up in the air and fooled Carleton goaltender Francois Brassard to give Queen's a 1-0 lead.

With the Gaels taking two late penalties in the first, Carleton started the second period with a five-on-three power-play. The Gaels defence and goaltender Justin Fazio held strong and killed off the penalties to keep their 1-0 lead.

Neither team was able to score and the game headed to the third period with Queen's holding onto a 1-0 lead.

The lead was shortlived in the third period as Dalen Hedges picked up his third of the playoffs just 55 seconds into the third period to tie the game up at 1-1.

Mid-way through the third, the Gaels were able to regain their lead. Liam Dunda, Mason Kohn and Duncan Campbell came together on a beautiful passing play as Kohn threaded a pass to the left post of Brassard where Campbell corraled the puck off his foot and buried his first of the playoffs.

With just under a minute left in regulation, a harmless Ravens shot from Matthew Forchuk fooled Fazio and evened the score at 2-2 forcing overtime.

It took just 57 seconds into overtime and Spencer Abraham spotted Lindo in front of the Ravens net and he pushed the puck past Brassard for the game-winner.

MUST SEE BY THE NUMBERS
1 - Win away from advancing to the Queen's Cup for the Gaels
5 - Game point streak for Mason Kohn
4 and 0 - Gaels record on the road this playoff
42 - Saves for Justin Fazio in the win
