Ratushniak named Team Leader/Assistant Coach for Canadian Women's Volleyball at 2019 FISU Summer Universiade

TORONTO (U SPORTS) – With the 2019 FISU Winter Universiade set to open later this week, U SPORTS announced Wednesday the full Mission Staff for the Canadian delegation with Gaels women's volleyball coach Ryan Ratushniak being appointed Team Leader/Assistant Coach for the women's volleyball team.
 
The full group consists of 28 staff in the areas of operations, transportation, logistics and accreditation, sports and team services, translation, communications, and medical.
 
Canada will compete in 13 sports at the 30th FISU Summer Games including archery, athletics, diving, fencing, gymnastics, swimming, table tennis, taekwando, rugby sevens (men and women), and water polo (women) – all of which will be selected and managed in partnership with each respective National Sports Organization (NSO).
 
Canada will also field teams in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's volleyball and women's soccer, all of which will be composed exclusively of U SPORTS student-athletes and managed by the national office.
 
Alberta's Laurier Eisler (women's volleyball) and will serve as head coach of the U SPORTS All-Star team with Ratushniak and Rick Scott from Dalhousie working as assistants.
 
Ratushniak and the Gaels are in the midst of a playoff run after a season that saw them finish third in the OUA East with a 13-6 record. Ratushniak is in his second year as the Gaels women's volleyball head coach and has posted back-to-back 13-6 seasons in the OUA.
 
Canada finished in 16th at the 2017 FISU Summer Universiade in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei with 13 medals (four gold, five silver, four bronze). This year's event is slated for Naples Italy, July 3-14.
