KINGSTON, Ont. (February 24, 2019) – The Queen's Gaels suffered a 2-1 overtime loss in game three of the McCaw Cup quarterfinals to the Ryerson Rams.
 
The loss marks the end of the Gaels' season after a highly competitive and close series with the Rams. The Gaels won game one after a last-minute goal from Alex Maw. The Rams then took games two and three in overtime to close out a neck-and-neck series.
 
This will be the first time that the Gaels fail to qualify for the U SPORTS Championship since the 2015-16 season.
 
GAME FLOW
After a long double overtime game last night, the two teams were right back in action for a 2:30pm start on Sunday afternoon. Yet despite the quick turnaround, the Gaels were able to get their fair share of chances in the first period.
 
The Gaels outshot the Rams 12-5 in the opening period as both teams had three powerplay opportunities. However, solid goaltending from Stephanie Pascal as well as Ryerson's Fanny Vigeant kept the game scoreless after 20 minutes.
 
As the Gaels kept up the pressure they were finally able to get one past Vigeant 6:25 into the second period.
 
Katrina Manoukarakis scored her first of the playoffs when a loose puck bounced in front of her right in the slot. She fired the puck to the top right corner for the game's opening goal.
 
Stephanie Pascal was busy in the second half of the period but she made all 8 stops in the period to remain perfect through 40 minutes.
 
With their playoff lives on the line the Rams came out and played an effective third period and knotted up the game with the Gaels.
 
4:56 into the period they were finally able to slip one past Pascal as Karli Nummikoski got a stick on an elevated shot and deflected it into the goal. With no one able to strike for the remainder of the third period the game was headed to yet another overtime period. However this time it was win-or-go-home.
 
OVERTIME
The extra period was evenly split with four shots for each team, however the Rams had the majority of possession in the Gaels' zone.
 
Nearly halfway into the period the pressure finally got to the Gaels as Mariah Hinds snapped a shot past Pascal to end the series.

FINAL GAME IN A GAELS JERSEY
Four Gaels played in their final game in a Tricolour jersey. Addi Halladay, Caroline DeBruin, Stephanie Pascal and Katrina Manoukarakis end their Gaels' careers at the Memorial Centre.

Addi Halladay served as the Gaels captain and recorded 72 points over five seasons. DeBruin had 21 points in 27 games for the Gaels. Stephanie Pascal ends her career as a former OUA Goaltender of the Year and 38 wins under her belt. Katrina Manoukarakis is a former OUA MVP and recorded 89 points during her four seasons at Queen's.
