KINGSTON, Ont. (February 20, 2019) - The fourth-seeded Queen's Gaels saw their OUA season come to a close with a 76-70 loss to the fifth-seeded York Lions in Critelli Cup OUA women's basketball playoff action at the Queen's ARC on Wednesday night.

GAME FLOW
The opening frame paved the way for what was in store all evening, a back-and-forth matchup with neither team giving an inch. After York enjoyed an early lead the Gaels were able to start an 8-0 run to find themselves ahead of the Lions. York held a 16-14 lead after the opening frame.

The second quarter saw Queen's guard Marianne Alarie with the hot hand putting up eight points in the frame. The Lions were able to keep the game close however controlling the second chance points ratio dropping 13 in the opening half compared to just four for the Gaels. Despite that Queen's held a 34-32 lead at halftime.

The second half saw the Gaels attempt to pull away from York, opening up a lead to as much as six. The Lions held strong and the Gaels lead was just two heading to the final frame.

The Lions came through in the final frame with clutch shooting to gain control in the matchup.  York outscored Queen's 22-14 in the final quarter behind Katrina Collins-Samuels who scored nine of her 24 points in the fourth.

At 1:16 Collins-Samuels nailed a three-pointer to give York a one-point lead and then again with 29 seconds left she nailed another to extend their lead to four. That was all they needed to hang on 76-70.
