No.10 Gaels look to avenge 2018 playoff loss in opening round matchup with Concordia Stingers

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 12, 2019) - The No.10 Queen's Gaels finished as the third seed in the OUA East and will meet the sixth seed Concordia Stingers to open the OUA playoffs on Wednesday night at the Memorial Centre in Kingston. For tickets head to www.gogaelsgo.com/tickets.

The Gaels finished the season with a 19-9-0 record while the Stingers went 15-11-2. The season series was split with Concordia winning 4-3 in Montreal and the Gaels prevailing at home in a shootout 4-3.

The series is also a repeat of the 2018 OUA East semifinal series where the Stingers eliminated the Gaels in overtime of game three.

This season the Gaels were led by Slater Doggett who finished with 21 goals and 13 assists for 34 points while the Stingers were led by defenceman Carl Neill who had four goals and 29 assists for 33 points.

The Gaels were second in the OUA with a 24.8 power-play percentage, had teh second best save percentage at 0.928 and were penalized the second least in the league at just 95 times. Concordia's strength also comes on the man-advantage as they lead the league in power-play goals with 32 and had the fourth best power-play converting at a 23.0 clip.

The difference in the series could come down to goaltending as the Gaels duo of Justin Fazio and Jack Flinn have been stellar between the pipes for Queen's all season. The Stingers have struggled in net and sport just a 0.885 save percentage which is 20th in the OUA. Goaltender Marc-Antoine Turcotte is expected to start the series and has a 3.01 GAA and 0.895 save percentage. The Gaels will hope to exploit the defensive weaknesses of Concordia and skate away with a series win.
