Gaels offence soars to 111-point performance

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 1st, 2019) – The Queen's Men's Basketball Team (10-9) defeated the York Lions (6-13) 111-71 on Friday night at the ARC – Main Gym.
 
GAME FLOW
In a tightly contested first quarter which was closer than the score would indicate, the Gaels hit some key shots late-on while also managing to get the Lions in foul trouble to secure a 24-16 lead headed to the second. Tanner Graham led the Gaels in the 1stquarter with 7 points.
 
The Gaels extended their lead in the second quarter, building off the shooting success they found near the end of the first and taking a 50-33 lead to the half. The Gaels were led in the first half by Jaz Bains with 15 points and shot 44% from the field as a team in comparison to York's 26 %. The Gaels also moved the ball incredibly well in the first half, racking up 11 assists as a team.
 
The Lions pushed hard to narrow the margin over the course of the third quarter, but the Gaels would go on a pivotal 9-1 run in the final two minutes to extend the lead by another nine points, taking a commanding 80-54 advantage to the final quarter.
 
The Gaels were absolutely dominant in the 4thquarter, scoring 31 points and eventually cruising to victory by a 40-point margin. The final score was 111 to 71, the Gaels first 100+ point game of the season offensively and their 10thwin.
 
Leading the way for the Gaels offensively were Jaz Bains and Tanner Graham, who each scored 22 points. The Gaels also shot 57% from the field as a team and recorded 24 assists.
