Gaels fall in battle of nationally ranked teams 73-66

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 23, 2019) - The No.7 Queen's Gaels (6-4) dropped a 73-66 decision to the No.6 Ryerson Rams (6-2) on Saturday night in OUA women's basketball from the Queen's ARC.

GAME FLOW
It was a battle of two of the nation's top programs as the sixth nationally-ranked Rams were in Kingston to take on the seventh nationally-ranked Gaels.

After opening up an early seven-point lead on Ryerson 11-4, the Rams were able to shake off the rust going on a 17-1 run to open up an eight-point lead of their own on the Gaels late in the first. Julia Chadwick and Emma Weltz were each able to hit late threes for Queen's to pull them to within five after the opening quarter.

The Gaels struggled to get their offence going in the second scoring just six points in the quarter. The Rams put up a modest 15 of their own but the halftime lead for Ryerson was extended to 14 at the break.

Queen's was able to rebound in the third quarter shooting 50% from the floor behind strong efforts from both Laura Donovan and Emma Ritcey. Donovan had seven of her 13 points in the frame while Ritcey added five of her own to help the Gaels get back to within four before falling back down seven to close the frame.

In the fourth, the Rams defence proved too strong for the Gaels as they continued to struggle from the floor shooting 33.3% in the quarter. The two sides each added another 22 points to their totals but it was the Rams that were able to come away with the win 73-66.

Ritcey led the Gaels with 19 points while adding five rebounds and four assists while a pair of Rams finished with double-doubles as Marin Scotten finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Hayley Robertson had 10 points to go along with 10 assists.
