NORTH BAY, Ont. (November 23, 2019) - The Queen's Gaels (7-4-1-0) earned their second win in less than 24 hours as they defeated the No.10 Nipissing Lakers (8-3-0-0) in OUA women's hockey action on Saturday afternoon.
GAME FLOW
It was a quick turnaround for the Gaels as they picked up a regulation win the previous night in Sudbury and made their way to North Bay or an afternoon matchup against the Nipissing Lakers.
The Gaels had their chances early, getting a pair of powerplay opportunities before their second was cut short by a penalty to
Emma McKnight.
Sydney Wilson set up
Hannah De Coutere for the Gaels first goal and lead of the afternoon firing a shot from the point past the Lakers netminder. After 20 minutes, Queen's held onto a 1-0 lead going into the second period.
Both teams were held scoreless in the second period as
Makenzy Arsenault stopped 15 shots in the frame to go along with another eight from the opening period keeping Queen's ahead.
In the third period the Lakers were able to tie things up at 7:07 as Ashley Taciuk got her first goal of the season. The deadlock was broken however as
Scout Watkins Southward scored the eventual game winner and her second of the season with just over ten minutes left in the third.
Nipissing did not have an answer as the Queen's defence held the Lakers team to the lone goal and picked up a 2-1 victory.
