MONTREAL (November 20, 2019) - The Ontario champion No.2 Queen's Gaels took down the Quebec finalists No.7 McGill 36-10 in the Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship (CUMRC) quarter-final hosted by Concordia.

The two sides had to deal with cold, wet and slightly snowy weather conditions which certainly played a factor throughout the match.
Queen's was able to strike early as they controlled possession and
William Matthews touched down a try for the first points of the match.
Dylan Young kicked the conversion and the Gaels led 7-0.
McGill was able to quickly respond putting together a long run but quickly turned over possession. The Gaels couldn't reclaim the field advantage and a penalty kick from McGill was successful to get them their first three points.
The Gaels controlled possession for the majority of the half and penalties continued to cause McGill trouble. Queen's was eventually able to add points to the scoreboard off of the McGill mistakes. Out of a second straight scrum off a McGill penalty, the Gaels were able to work the ball towards the try line and
Ruairidh MacPhail touched down for the second try for Queen's on the afternoon.
At halftime, the Gaels held a close advantage over McGill 12-3.
Queen's jumped on McGill early in the second as
Connor Jaques kicked the ball down the sideline and finally pounced on the ball for a try giving Queen's a 17-3 lead.
A near half-field run from
Cully Quirke gave the Gaels another try for a 22-3 advantage. The Tricolour added another two tries and conversions while McGill put down a try and conversion to close the match. In the end, Queen's took the 36-10 victory to advance to the national semifinal.
