Gaels lose close contest 3-1 against No.3 Toronto

TORONTO, Ont. (November 9, 2019) - The Queen's Gaels (4-4) fell 3-1 on the road against the undefeated Toronto Varsity Blues (7-0) in Varsity Arena. 

The Queen's Gaels battled hard against the arsity Blues in a chippy contest on Saturday night in Toronto. The Gaels and Varsity Blues were even throughout the first period as Gaels goaltender Makenzy Arsenault made few well-timed saves to keep Toronto off the scoreboard. 

Queen's renewed their growing rivalry in the second period as both teams traded multiple penalties in the period. The Blues used this to their advantage as Taylor Trussler scored a power play goal to give Toronto a 1-0 lead. Brigid Goris responded for Queen's with a goal late in the second period to level the score. 

The third period began as a largely even battle as both teams traded scoring opportunities. Breanna Berndsen broke through for the Varsity Blues beating Arsenault with less than five minutes remaining. 

The Gaels fought hard in their attempt to even the game but Laura MacDonnell sealed Toronto's victory scoring a late empty net goal as the Gaels fell 3-1 to the Varsity Blues.
