Gaels storm back in third but fall 84-62 to No.2 Rams

KINGSTON, Ont. (January 11, 2019) – The Queen's Men's Basketball Team (8-5) fell to the No.2 Ryerson Rams (12-1) 84-62 on Friday night at the ARC – Main Gym.

FALL CHAMPIONS NIGHT GAME FLOW
In a tough first quarter, the Gaels played well but struggled to finish around the basket against a physically imposing Rams team featuring 7-foot-2 Senegalese centre Tanor Ngom. The Gaels fell behind 24-9 and shot only 27% from the field, while the Rams shot an even 50%.

While the Gaels did a better job scoring the ball in the second quarter, they were unable to narrow the advantage as they would head to the half trailing the Rams 47-27. Leading the way for Queen's in the first half was Tanner Graham with 11 points, while Filip Vujadinovic led Ryerson with 16 points and seven rebounds.

The Gaels started the third quarter red-hot, hitting three quick shots from behind the arc and jumping out on an 11-3 run, closing the lead to twelve points. The Gaels would cut the lead down to as few as seven points mid-way through the quarter, but were unable to survive a late quarter Rams onslaught as the visitors stretched the lead back out to thirteen points at 67-54.

In the final quarter, the Rams would dominate, opening the lead back up to 20+ points and putting on an impressive defensive display, holding the Gaels to only eight points after surrendering 27 in the third quarter. The Rams would walk away with an 84-62 victory for their 12th win of the season.

Leading the way for the Gaels in the game was Tanner Graham with 17 points and nine rebounds, while JV Mukama had 25 points for the Rams and Filip Vujadinovic had 10 rebounds.  The Rams dominated the Gaels on the glass with 49 total rebounds and shot over 50% from the field all game long.
