OSHAWA, Ont. (September 7, 2018) - The No.5 Queen's Gaels (2-1-0) suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of the UOIT Ridgebacks (2-3-0) 2-0 on Friday night in Oshawa.
OUA BRONZE REMATCH
Queen's and UOIT last met in the OUA bronze medal match last season where the Gaels were able to claim an OUA medal at Oshawa with a 3-0 win over the home side. This was the first meeting between the two teams since then.
GAME FLOW
Early in the match, it was the home side striking first when Georgia Wilder beat Queen's keeper
Anna Stephenson in the seventh minute to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
The Gaels pressed offensively late in the opening half but were unable to beat UOIT keeper Olivia Tierney on any of their six shots on target.
The Ridgebacks were able to add a second tally in the 72nd minute off the foot of Taijah Henderson and held on for a 2-0 final.
SUNDAY BRIGHT SIDE
The Gaels have won six straight matches against Trent dating back to a 0-0 tie that came on September 13 of 2014. Queen's will hope to make it seven on Sunday.
