The Queen's women's hockey team capped off their final preseason game with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees in our nation's capital.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels were outplayed in the first period as they were outshot 13-6, however they managed to keep the game scoreless heading into the first intermission.

In the second, the Gaels opened the scoring as
Taylor Hicks scored an unassisted goal to give Queen's a 1-0 lead, which they would carry into the intermission.

Midway through the third, Ottawa's Roxanne Rioux tied the game. Things remained the same for the final half of the third as we went to overtime.

In overtime, the Gaels outshot the Gee-Gees 7-3 but weren't able to convert, as a shootout was needed.

Addi Halladay scored the lone goal of the shootout, while Gaels' goaltender
Makenzy Arsenault stopped all three Gee-Gees shooters to secure the win.

ARSENAULT STANDS TALL
The Gaels' goaltender made 44 saves on the afternoon as Queen's was outshot in every regulation period and 45-30 in total.

The Gaels needed all 44 of her saves plus the three in the shootout to escape Ottawa with a narrow win.

UP NEXT
The Gaels will begin their regular season on October 12 as they host the Laurentian Voyaguers. The following night they will play the Nipissing Lakers.
