Men's rugby in top form with 109-0 shutout of Brock

KINGSTON, Ont. (September 22, 2018) – The Queen's Gaels Men's Rugby Team (4-0) continued their dominant OUA play backing up last weekend's 97-point performance with a 109-0 shutout against the Brock Badgers (1-3).

GAME FLOW
The Gaels came roaring out of the gates scoring in the very first minute of the match on a try by Cully Quirke, and really never looked back from that point onwards.

While Brock put up a good fight in the trenches they were thoroughly out-manned against the Gaels in open space and Forwards Nicholas DeLallo and Ruairidh MacPhail were free to run wild. The two forwards combined for 3 tries on the match and also broke off for a series of long runs.

Perhaps the only consolation for the Badgers was the kicking play of their standout flyhalf Carter Bondy, who did his best to pin the Gaels in poor field position and whose great kickoffs lead to Brock recovering the ball on several occasions.

The Gaels took a 52-0 lead into the second half and continued their torrid try scoring pace even after substituting almost a full squad. One particular substitute standout was Connor Weyell: the first-year North Vancouver native amassed three second half tries to lead the Gaels substitutes past the century mark and to an eventual and resounding 109-0 victory.

BY THE NUMBERS
0 – Number of points allowed by the Gaels: helping to secure the best defensive record in the OUA
9 – Average points allowed for the Gaels over their first four matches OUA matches
12 – Twelve different Gaels scored a try or more

FINAL SAY

Head Coach David Butcher chimed in with his thoughts on a very impressive victory: "They've been doing some amazing things in training and it's really transferred onto the pitch this Saturday – I'm really surprised at the score line but not by the performance this weekend"

UP NEXT
The Gaels head out on the road next Friday, September 28 to face perhaps their biggest test of the OUA calendar: The Guelph Gryphons. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 7:00pm.
