Phil Marshall accepts position with Rowing Canada

Queen's rowing head coach Phil Marshall, who joined the Gaels in 2016, has been recruited to a soon to be announced Senior Coaching role with Rowing Canada. Marshall led the Gaels to strong individual performances at both the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and the Canadian University Rowing Championships this past Fall. Queen's rowers took home both female and male athlete of the year honours at the OUA championships.

Marshall has over 30 years of high-performance rowing experience, most recently as a member of Canada's Olympic coaching staff for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

"It has been a true pleasure to witness the growth of the student-athletes at Queen's," said Marshall on his time as a Gael. "Their commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the water has been tremendous, and I look forward to seeing continued success in the future."

"Marshall came to Queen's as the department's first full-time rowing coach, thanks to the partnership with the Kingston Rowing Club.  Through his efforts the program has seen much progress in a short periord of time.  We thank Phil for his service to Queen's, our department and the rowing program and wish him every success at Rowing Canada," said Sean Scott, Director, High Performance Sport Operations, Queen's Athletics and Recreation. "We remain committed to our rowing program and look forward to finding a talented coach who can lead the program into the future."

Queen's Athletics & Recreation will sit down with our key partner the Kingston Rowing Club to discuss next steps and their program needs.

The search for Marshall's successor to build upon the high achievements of this past fall season will commence immediately.
